The Open Doors website has been built with the intention of making the content accessible to the widest range of visitors, regardless of disability or impairment. This has been achieved by adhering to best practices, such as compliance with W3C standards. This accessibility statement records the main steps that we have taken to accommodate the needs of disabled people:

Standards compliance

The pages on this website were built to comply with all priority 1 and 2 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Where possible, all pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional using structured semantic markup.

Navigation aids

All pages contain a link to the home page, and the menu system has been constructed in a consistent fashion throughout the website.

All links should have title attributes, which describe the link in greater detail. Links are written to make sense out of context.

All images should include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics may include null ALT attributes.

Visual design

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout. If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.

This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified “text size” option in visual browsers. To increase text size in most browsers, simply hold down CTRL and + simultaneously.

Some visually impaired web users need to take further steps to make websites visible. Most browsers enable you to specify your own Cascading Style Sheet that will override the styling of the websites that you view. This will give you full control of the visual appearance of the text in websites. You can find out more about specifying your own CSS file by using the Help function within your web browser software.
